Chapter One
“Brooke!” He pounded on her door.
“Brooke, I know you're home!” He yelled.
“Brooke!” He yelled.
“Brooke, thanks for being here.”
He was finally getting out hospital today and Brooke had helped him through it.
“That’s me.” She said surprisingly dryly. “Helping the needy.”
He smiled.
“The needy and the lying bastards, what’s the difference?”
His head shot up.
“I know.” She spat coldly.
“What?” His voice trembled.
“I know about your dirty little affair with Peyton.”
“Brooke-” He started.
She began to gather her things together, “I sat here for an hour, listening to you talk about stupid basketball, about your worries about Keith and the pain in your shoulder and not once did you say ‘By the way Brooke, after picking up my mom I was planning on getting together with Peyton and breaking your heart’ that just didn't come up in the last hour.
He strained to get up, the pain in his shoulder was overwhelming.
“It wasn’t like that.” He tried to explain.
She whipped around, “What was it like Lucas? Please tell me.”
He struggled to find the words, what could he say?
She scoffed, “Your silence speaks volumes.”
He made a grab for her wrist, “Wait!” He begged desperately.
She stood still.
“Yes, Peyton and I did get together," He said slowly "and we were gonna be together but-”
She struggled to try get away but he held on tighter. “But my accident, I was…” He could feel her slipping away “I was lying there and all I could think was how late I was gonna be, getting to the airport… and….and being late to the airport meant I was gonna be late meeting up with you and I knew you’d be waiting there… just waiting for me. That was all I could think about.” He could hear his own voice breaking but he didn’t care. “That was all I could think about.” He repeated.
“All I could think about was you. You.” His hand gripped around her wrist not ready to let her go.
“Lucas,” She said firmly “Let go of me!”
He looked down and saw his hand wrapped around her wrist pretty tightly, he let go hastily.
“I’m sorry.” He said, she rolled her eyes and walked out the door. “I’m sorry.” He repeated.
“I’m sorry!” He yelled.
With that the door opened.
